Celebration of the 4th International Landscape Day in Serbia

The Ministry of Environmental Protection of the Republic of Serbia, in cooperation with PE “Djerdap National Park”, the Institute for Nature Conservation of Serbia and the Faculty of Forestry of the University of Belgrade, will celebrate the Fourth International Landscape Day in Serbia on Monday, October 12, 2020 at 10 AM in the office building of PE “Djerdap National Park” in Donji Milanovac.

The Republic of Serbia signed and ratified the European Landscape Convention in 2011 and thus joined 39 member states of the Council of Europe, which care about sustainable development and recognize landscape as an essential factor in establishing a balance between conservation of natural and cultural heritage, as an expression of European identity and diversity.

The Council of Europe has identified a matter of landscapes as an important field of European policy. The landscape has been identified as a part of the cultural heritage, as a cultural and natural asset of immediate importance for quality of life.

The International Landscape Day was established by the Council of Europe, pointing to the importance of landscape preservation. The Ministry of Environmental Protection of the Republic of Serbia, in cooperation with partner institutions, organizes various events every year in mid-October and thus symbolically celebrates this day.

The Fourth International Landscape Day is dedicated to the implementation of the European Landscape Convention in sectoral policies (https://www.coe.int/en/web/landscape/international-landscape-day). The representatives of the Ministry of Environmental Protection, Djerdap National Park, Institute for Nature Conservation and Faculty of Forestry will show a current progress in landscape planning and management, with the emphasis on its integration into spatial planning documents and various sectoral strategies and policies.

The Faculty of Forestry of the University of Belgrade will dedicate a week from October 12 to October 20 to a student landscape architecture exhibition, with the theme “Character of landscapes in sectoral plans”. The student works will be exhibited in the hall of the Faculty of Forestry, as well as on the official closing ceremony which will be held on October 15 at the Faculty of Forestry in Belgrade.
